Machinery Software & Controls Engineer


About the Position

Reporting to the Machinery Software Manager, the primary responsibility of this role is to aid in the development, maintenance, testing and support of machinery control systems performing automated sawing and timber assembly operations.

This is a hands-on software & control systems development position. You will be developing front-end user applications as well as safe and efficient control systems involving sensors, motors, drives and actuators. Much of the time may be spent on the factory floor, developing, integrating, testing and refining systems for new and existing products.

This position is based at the Machinery Division at our Stapylton facility, which is located at the northern end of the sunny Gold Coast. Infrequent travel may be required to other Multinail facilities for training and meetings, or to customer sites for equipment commissioning and support.

The successful candidate for this position must be articulate, with good written and verbal communication skills. They will be flexible, versatile and comfortable working across a broad range of fields. They will also be eager and quick to learn new skills, and focussed and finding the best possible solution to complex problems.

 

We are looking for a candidate who can be described as one of the following:

  • A Control Systems Engineer (3+ years’ experience) with PLC programming experience as well as being proficient in a high-level programming language such as C#
  • A Software Engineer (3+ years’ experience) with strong programming skills as well as some demonstrable knowledge in a field relevant to control systems (e.g. automation, electronics, robotics)


Key Selection Criteria
Your application must specifically address your training and experience in each of the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer or Software Engineering
  • Automation/Control Systems/Motion Control experience
  • Proficiency in C#/.NET
  • Experience with Version Control Systems (preferably Git & Gitflow)
  • Commissioning or on-site support experience


Additional Selection Criteria
Knowledge in some of the following areas is highly desired:

  • Familiarity with a range of control hardware (PLCs/Servos/Sensors/Actuators)
  • Experience with industrial robotics
  • Experience with databases (SQL/LINQ/Entity Framework)
  • Experience with Cloud/Web technologies
  • Experience with industrial communications protocols and networking
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of timber building, frame and truss terminology
