From l-to-r: Matt Smith, Trent Bucholz, Travis Taylor and David Zhang
The opportunities now available to light weight truss and frame manufacturers has grown significantly since the changes to the NCC in 2016, especially in multi-residential, mid-rise and mass timber construction across all classes of buildings. To assist our Fabricators in maximising these opportunities Multinail has expanded its R&D and engineering services offering with two promotions in our Engineering Division:
Matthew Smith has accepted the new position of National Engineering Systems Manager working directly with Travis Taylor, Chief Building Systems Officer & Head of Asia. In Matt’s new position he will be working with fabricators to provide engineering solutions for multi-residential and mid-rise timber buildings.
With Matt’s 25+ years’ experience in the timber industry and having worked in a variety of positions from an onsite labour physically erecting frames and trusses, to Business Development Manager, to Chief Engineer, his skill set is an invaluable resource that fabricators can call upon when the need arises to design these larger timber buildings.
David Zhang has been promoted into a management role leading our team of state-based engineers. As Lead Structural Engineering Manager, David will work directly with Trent Bucholz, Chief Customer Officer. As the Lead Structural Engineering Manager, David will be responsible for managing the team of structural engineers to provide engineering solutions for the Multinail group of customers, sales team, customer support staff and software development teams.
David started gaining valuable experience with Multinail back in 2011 when he was still in his third year of his bachelor degree in university. After successfully graduating in 2012, David started as a graduate structural engineer. David has since worked in the engineering department supporting and helping customers, developing engineering technologies and specialising in timber structure designs. David is passionate about the timber industry and believes this is the industry of the future.
With this promotion, David would like to take this opportunity to expand on and lead the engineering team to continue to deliver well-accepted engineering services and support known to be expected by Multinail customers.
